As I write this, we would all be gearing ourselves up for a weekend of fun, adventure and new experiences for our annual Spring Camp. Unfortunately, this was not to be, so we thought it would be nice to propose a few activities that you could do over the half term to compensate. You can do all, or some, or even none – it’s up to you !

Below you will find a list of activities put together by myself and Michael (Young Leader from Sioux cub pack). All purple text is a link with more information. I hope that you all enjoy these activities and your main thing is that you have fun. These activities can be for the whole family so get parents and siblings to join it. Good Luck and don’t forget to send over what you create to 7thepsomathome@gmail.com.

Sleeping away from your bed
This year we can’t sleep in the storm havens as usual so we propose two options for you.
[1] If you own a tent then set it up outside and spend a night outside.
[2] Build a den out of pillows blankets and other materials around your house and sleep inside that.
Camp Cook
Help your parents prepare for, light a fire and cook on a BBQ.
Treat yourself to a campfire chocolate orange or chocolate banana
Bee Hotel
Follow the instructions on the scouts website to learn how to create a bee hotel.
Get knotty
For this activity your task is to learn how to tie 5 knots, you can do this with the assistance of the video below.
Scavenger Hunt
Go on a Scavenger hunt with your parents, you can get the scavanger hunt information pack by clicking download.
Pets at Home
If you have a pet – keep a diary about caring for an animal for your ‘Pets at Home’ badge see the scouts website for more information on this badge.
Cycle
If you have a bike – give it a clean, check the tyres, breaks and go on a cycle ride with one of your parents. More information on this can be found on the scouts website.
Egg and Spoon Race
This one can be done with all the family!
Get some spoons and enough eggs to have one each. You could use real (hard-boiled) eggs, plastic eggs or smaller chocolate eggs (creme eggs?!) if you have them.
Agree a course, either in the garden, or in a safe area of the house, and race each other to the finish line without dropping the egg!
If your course is too small for everyone to go at once, you could use a stopwatch (or phone) and time each person doing it individually. Someone can be in charge of writing down everyone’s time and working out who is fastest!
If a simple egg and spoon race is too easy, mix it up a bit and make things more difficult – you could add obstacles you have to go around, or even try doing it blindfolded (go slowly and make sure you’re doing it in a safe area if you are going to do that!)
If you want to share pictures of this, great, but it’s just for fun so you don’t have to!
Creative Composting
Counts towards: Environmental Conservation Activity Badge
Information can be found on the scouts website. , where you can learn how to make and maintain a healthy compost heap.
This is a good way to dispose of fruit and vegetable waste, and it’s great for your garden too! Once the heap starts producing earth, you can use it to grow flowers and vegetables in your garden (and the cycle repeats)!
Music Makers
Counts towards: Musician Stage 1
Make a music maker! You can do this however you want, but there are some detailed instructions for some different types of homemade instruments here on the scouts website.
Try making a thing to hit, a thing to strum and a thing to shake. Submit your videos via the email.
A very basic example I made in a couple of minutes with an old cup and some elastic bands is shown here below, but you can make a better one! Try decorating your instrument with tissue paper, paint or beads.
Collaborative Drawing
One child (or other member of the family) draws a head, folds the paper and passes it so that the next person can’t see what they have drawn, The next person draws the top part of the body (chest and arms), folds over and passes on (or back to the first person, who then draws the lower half of the body, and then finally the legs and feet.

Mapping
It wouldn’t be a camp without some map reading. But this time, we want you to make the map! This will help towards your Local Knowledge badge.
So, please make a map of Epsom. It needs to show the following: hospital, fire station, ambulance station, shopping centre, your nearest convenience store, railway station, two bus stops, EMC, a park, Rainbow sports centre, , Odeon, your school, Epsom Town Hall.
